Dollmaking workshop this weekend

A FREE artmaking workshop run by local creative Krystle Evans is set to take place at the Broken Hill Art Exchange this weekend.

In support of the upcoming Waste 2 Art exhibition, which sees creatives make art from man-made waste, Evans will host a workshop teaching participants to make plush ragdolls from materials that would otherwise end up in landfill.

The Waste 2 Art theme for 2025 is “toys”, and with this in mind, Evans will be teaching participants to make soft, sculptural toys that hark back to traditional folk art dolls, using found materials.

Evans is an Aboriginal artist with familial ties to the Far West regions where she lives and practices.

Her work seeks to explore self and the human experience through a feminine and cultural lens.

Participants are encouraged to bring anything they hope to use, and suggested materials include fabric, needle and thread, stuffing, string, textas, buttons and old toys, but some materials will also be provided.

The workshop will run on Saturday from 11am to 2pm at the Art Exchange, 313 Argent Street in Broken Hill.

While the event is free and open to children and adults, and registration via the Broken Hill Art Exchange website is essential as numbers are limited.
