Study callout for women over 50

A NEW research program which aims to support women over fifty to become more physically active is seeking participants from across New South Wales.

The program offers participants a free and flexible online program to support them to become, and stay, more active.

Funded by a Medical Research Future Fund grant from the Department of Health and Aged Care, the study will be led by Professor Annie Tiedemann from the University of Sydney.

Participants must meet eligibility criteria to partake in the study, which includes being female, over fifty, living in NSW, currently doing less than 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical exercise each week and have a desire to become more active.

Participants also need to have English language skills necessary to complete forms and take part in conversations, and access to the internet.

The study will follow a six month program designed to change behaviours associated with physical exercise.

A spokesperson for the study said the benefits of increased physical activity can include reduced stress and anxiety, improved moods, energy and sleep, socialising, improved mobility, posture and balance, reduction of aches and pains, weight management and more.

Those interested can complete an expression of interest form on the Active Women Over 50 website.
