The Shed art gallery turns one

THE Shed Gallery has announced a birthday party and exhibition to celebrate their first year on March 14.

Caroline Nelson, who opened the space opposite Sturt Park with partner and artist Dirk Romeyn, said plans were still being finalised but the exhibition would be an exciting collaborative show.

“We have five artists,” Ms Nelson said.

“And they’re coming from throughout Australia.”

Ms Nelson and Mr Romeyn opened the gallery in 2024, just more than a year after relocating to Broken Hill from the Blue Mountains.

The gallery exhibits the work of Mr Romeyn and Barkandji artist Brian Harris, but also offers a workshop and communal space for artists and friends to visit and share a cup of tea.

“We want people to come in here and relax and talk, we want it to be welcoming and feel personal,” Ms Nelson said.

The pair said they’ve felt incredibly supported by the community since opening The Shed, and so the event is their way to thank locals.

“Everyone is invited,” Ms Nelson said.

“It’s completely open for the community. We have had such great community support over the year and we want to celebrate with everyone who has been a part of that at our first birthday.”

More details of the event and exhibition to be revealed soon.
