Social Futures is here for you

NEEDING help with the National Disability Insurance Scheme? Social Futures may be able to connect you with the support you require.

Social Futures, located in Argent Street, is an NDIS partner that supports Broken Hill and surrounding regions.

They will be one of the organisations at City Council’s Outback Disability Expo on Saturday, July 26.

Social Futures, local area coordinator Sherean Kennewell said they work to help people understand and access the NDIS.

“As a NDIS local area coordination partner, we work alongside people with disability to help them understand and access the NDIS,” she said.

“Our role is to connect people with supports, other government services, and activities in the community that will help them achieve the goals that matter to them.”

Ms Kennewell said the Expo was a chance for people to speak face-to-face with services and see what is available.

“The Outback Disability Expo is a great chance for people living with disability – and their families, carers, and support networks – to meet with local providers face-to-face and learn what types of support are available,” she said.

“In regional areas, often people need to travel long distances. This event offers a fantastic opportunity to explore a range of options and connect with a variety of supports, all in one place.”

Local area coordinators like Ms Kennewell at Social Futures are typically the main point of contact for anyone wishing to access the NDIS. They work alongside people with disability to help them access relevant supports, identify goals that matter to them, and help build capacity to make their own decisions and live the life they choose.

The Outback Disability Expo is a free, inclusive event open to everyone.

There will be more than 20 stallholders and providers from across the region – and yes, anyone is welcome to drop by any of the stalls and have a chat.

Events like this provide a wonderful opportunity to connect with community, help deliver improved outcomes for people with disability, and build a more inclusive society.

It’s a great chance for people living with disability (and their families, carers, and support networks) to meet with local providers face-to-face, and learn what’s available locally.
