What’s on this school holidays

IN celebration of the Easter weekend and school holidays, the Albert Kersten Mining and Minerals Museum is hosting a scavenger hunt for kids.

Museum marketing assistant Megan Gilbert said it will help teach kids about minerals.

“They’ll be given UV torches and mineral-themed clues to find the answers around the museum,” she said.

“Those who complete the hunt are rewarded with an Easter egg!”

Entry to the museum is $5 for under 12s, $10 for older and $20 for a family pass.

The scavenger hunt will run during opening hours until next Wednesday.

On Saturday, kids are invited to paint a pet rock while learning about fluorescents and minerals.

Other school holiday events include sand art workshops on Tuesday and Wednesday for kids hosted by the library, along with an ANZAC craft session next Thursday. Both can be registered for by calling 8080 3469.

Tonight local artist Krystle Evan’s textile exhibition, Darn, will open at local gallery Slag Heap on Oxide Street from 6pm, with all welcome.

The Easter Bunny will be riding the Easter train at Queen Elizabeth Park on Sunday between 10am and 1pm.

The kiosk will be open with a sausage sizzle, train burgers, cupcakes, zooper doopers, cold drinks and milkshakes.
