Calling all local Indigenous artists

THE 2025 CatholicCare Wilcannia-Forbes Aboriginal Art Competition is now open, with $4000 in prizes up for grabs.

The competition is open to all Indigenous community members living in the Diocese of Wilcannia-Forbes (or in communities where its services are available), and is organised by CatholicCare Wilcannia-Forbes.

CatholicCare said it invites all artists that meet the criteria to put ‘paint to canvas’, with a prize pool of $4000 on offer for the best original works.

CatholicCare Wilcannia-Forbes chief executive officer Anne-Marie Mioche said she encouraged emerging Indigenous artists to enter.

“Each time we’ve held this competition, we’ve received some truly awesome and inspiring entries,” Ms Mioche said.

Some of the entries from previous years have even been used in the organisation’s marketing and branding content.

“We started this competition in 2019 because we knew there was unrecognised talent in our vast region, and we wanted to showcase these artists.”

First prize winner is awarded $2000, second prize $1500 and third prize $500.

Ms Mioche said herself and staff love viewing the entered artwork.

“I always feel excitement at the arrival of new entries, and I know our team members do as well,” she said.

Paintings and completed entry forms are accepted at any CatholicCare Wilcannia-Forbes offices.

The competition closes on Monday, March 31, and more information can be found at ccwf.org.au
