THE South Broken Hill Football Club Debutante Ball, an iconic event which draws a crowd of more than 500 and is six months in the making, will take place on Saturday.
The event, at the Gary Radford Pavilion, sees nine young girls formally presented to SFC honorees Alexis Aguis and Todd Davidson.
Traditionally these balls marked a young woman’s readiness for marriage and acted as a way to present her to a potential husband, and today celebrate a woman’s coming of age into adulthood.
Organised by Leanne Bird and Stacey Burns, the past few months have involved tireless preparation including rehearsals and fittings.
“Dressed in exquisite white gowns, the debutantes will make their grand entrance, each accompanied by an escort in formal attire,” Ms Bird said.
“This event is a proud moment for the debutantes and their families, celebrating tradition, elegance, and achievement.
“Trainers Gemma Murray and Shaina Burns have worked tirelessly to bring the event to life, and hosting the gala affair is MC Michael Purcell.”
Ms Bird described the annual traditional event as a grand affair.
“It brings together families and guests for an evening of sophistication and celebration,” she said.
“The evening’s program includes the Partner Waltz, Parent Waltz, and two Cha-Chas, along with heartfelt speeches and the ceremonial presentation of the debutantes, marking a significant milestone in their lives.”
Ms Bird thanked all the volunteers who have helped organise the event.
“The Ball wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of the many volunteers who contribute on the night,” she said.
