Animal abuser pleads guilty

BROKEN Hill man Jet Jai Johnson pled guilty to five counts of torture and causing prolonged suffering to animals in Broken Hill Local Court on Wednesday.

Video footage of Johnson torturing animals was shared online via the Broken Hill Snake Catchers page on March 31.

The page called for the man to be arrested, writing “it is deeply disturbing that we have been receiving multiple reports of people being horrifically cruel to animals.

“This one which was brought to our attention last night is one of the most deplorable things I’ve ever seen.”

The videos, which showed Johnson kicking baby goats, punching and attacking kangaroos and running over a live kangaroo’s head, quickly went viral after being shared online, as well as being reported to the police and RSPCA.

A joint investigation by officers from the Barrier Police District and the Rural Crime Prevention Team executed a warrant at a Broken Hill home on April 1, leading to Johnson’s arrest.

The 21 year old has had his sentencing adjourned until July 30.
