THE Silver City Quilters, a social group some 40-years old, is preparing for its next event after a successful Biennial Exhibition.
The group, which has around 50 members, is a social community for anyone passionate about quilting and patchwork, no matter their skill level.
Silver City Quilters secretary Jo Kells said that around 200 people attended the last event held over the October long-weekend.
“Both locals and visitors came to view the 75 different exhibits, ranging from quilts of all shapes and sizes, wall-hangings, some beautiful bags and even a denim covered chair,” she said.
Silver City Quilters’ next event is a craft fair on Saturday, November 30, run by the Broken Hill Potters Society and other local organisations.
“Several quilters, including me, will be attending and selling quilts and other handmade gear,” Ms Kells said.
Ms Kells said the feedback from events has been very positive.
“People are really amazed at the standard of work and the variety,” she said. “It’s colourful and some quilts are very big, it’s just amazing how they can see the hours of work that go into it.”
As for what she loves about the group, it’s the opportunity to see her fellow sewers regularly.
“Every Saturday we get together with our friends who are like-minded and have these things in common,” she said. “Some of the older members who don’t do a lot of sewing anymore will just come along for the company, a chat and afternoon tea.”
