White Cliffs Underground Motel for sale

FAMOUSLY the world’s largest underground accommodation, the White Cliffs Underground Motel is up for sale, offering potential buyers the opportunity to experience life in the quirky Far West opal mining town.

The price hasn’t been publicly revealed, however it’s said to on par with the average Sydney or Melbourne house.

The motel features 48-rooms, plus licensed restaurant, café, bar, conference room, museum and accommodation for owners, managers and staff.

The property is being sold by Outback NSW hospitality group Out of the Ordinary Outback after eight years of ownership.

The subterranean motel dates back to the early 1900s when opal miners first began seeking underground sleeping quarters to shelter from the brutal summer heat in the outback.

The temperature in the motel sits at a comfortable 22 degrees year round.

Scott Smith, Out of the Ordinary Outback owner, said the motel had terrific potential for a new buyer.

“For the same cost as a house in Sydney or Melbourne, an inspired buyer seeking a new investment prospect or an adventure-filled life in the Outback can own this famous motel and craft a new vision for it,” Mr Smith said.

“Approved development plans offer a clear path for enhancing the property including a possible new future as a desert wellness retreat. This distinctive and exciting property offers endless opportunities.”
