Swimmers make a splash

SWIMMERS Hamilton Anflous and Rosalie Woodman from Sacred Heart Parish School are set to embark on an exciting adventure in Sydney.

They will be taking part in the prestigious Polding Swimming Trials at the iconic Sydney Olympic Park on April 2.

They will proudly represent the Wilcannia-Forbes Swim Team, competing against some of the finest swimmers from all Catholic Dioceses in Central West NSW, with hopes of qualifying for the NSW PSSA State Swimming Trials.

This is Rosalie first trip to Sydney, and she is filled with anticipation.

Hamilton, on the other hand, is no stranger to the Polding Trials, as this marks his third year of competition.

He is scheduled to participate in six events on the day.

“I am looking forward to the challenge, and it’s great to be back,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton has been chosen as the flag bearer for the Wilcannia-Forbes team, a significant recognition of his dedication and leadership.

“We wish both swimmers the very best as they travel to Sydney to pursue their dreams at the Polding Swimming Trials,” teacher Lucy Clarke said.

Meanwhile, another group of swimmers from Sacred Heart Parish School recently took part in the Wilcannia Forbes Diocesan Swimming Trials.

The eight hour journey to Parkes proved to be worthwhile.

All eight Sacred Heart swimmers showcased their skills and determination, achieving personal bests (PBs) across the board.

In a fiercely competitive environment with up to 14 swimmers per event, the Sacred Heart swimmers finished in the top five in multiple categories.

Among the standout performances was their youngest member, Rosalie Woodman, who impressively secured second place in her event, the 50m freestyle.

The senior boys relay team also shone brightly, finishing in second place.

However, it was Hamilton Anflous who truly stole the spotlight with an unforgettable performance. He triumphed in the 100m freestyle, 200m individual medley (IM), 50m butterfly, and 50m breaststroke, and also earned second place in the 50m freestyle and backstroke.

In addition to his remarkable achievements, Hamilton broke two records in the 50m butterfly and 200m IM.

The swimmers’ sportsmanship, camaraderie, and school spirit inspired fellow participants and event organisers.
