Mechanical issues impact flights

PASSENGERS on a Qantaslink flight from Sydney to Broken Hill on Boxing Day were forced circle the city after the plane they were on had mechanical issues.

Emergency services met the aircraft once it landed safely in the afternoon of Thursday, December 26, but flights out of the city had to be rescheduled as the plane was unable to be moved.

The Boxing Day incident came after different issue occurred on Monday, December 23, when a landing gear on Qantas aircraft flying into Broken didn’t work.

“A Qantas flight from Sydney to Broken Hill experienced a landing gear issue after the captain initiated a go-around due to the weather in Broken Hill,” a spokesperson for the airline said.

“Our pilots are highly trained to handle situations like this and the flight has since landed safely in Broken Hill.

“We understand this would have been an unsettling experience for customers and we thank them for co-operating with the instructions of crew.

“We are also following up with customers to provide our support.”

Broken Hill City Council posted on their Facebook page that the town’s airport runway was blocked.

“Please note that the city’s runway is currently out of service as it is blocked from an emergency landing earlier today (December 26).

“All flights for the remainder of the evening have been cancelled, however it is expected that the issue will be resolved later tonight, and flights will be back to normal tomorrow.”
