ANOTHER round of Broken Hill tennis unfolded upon the city’s artificially grassed courts with the ever joyful racquet sport delivering some grand entertainment.
First up in the Wednesday night Division One, it was Spin Doctors taking on Feauties.
After dropping the opening doubles set 7–4 to Feauties’ Brady Wauchope and Chris Stanley, the Spin Doctors rallied with a string of dominant performances.
Tom Kennedy and Johnno Hull set the tone with a commanding 7–1 win over Molly Molloy and Terry Hibberd in the second, before Shaun Kennedy and Hull backed it up with a flawless 7–0 shutout in the fourth.
Feauties attempted to salvage a second set for the night through Hibbered and Wauchope combining, but fell in a tight 5-7 contest Hull and Mackenzie Niarros.
The final score saw Spin Doctors victorious five sets 39 games to one set 14 games.
In the second match, Couldabeens proved too strong for MacBlack, also claiming five of the six sets in a dominant team performance.
Jaime Passlow and Glen Andrich got things rolling with a 7–3 win in the opener against Jack Woods and Hamish Curtis, while Claire Schneider and Leonie Channing fell to Jenny Powell and Julie Sandy in a nailbiting tiebreaker.
Channing and Schneider bounced back to each pick up back-to-back victories and close out Macblack from the contest.
Couldabeens on top at the end, 5-41 to 1-27.
The final match of the night was a clean sweep by Keen-On Balls over the forfeiting Net Ninjas.
Onto Thursday night and the Open A grade where it was just the one match once again.
Under the lights on a cool April evening, Backhands and Volleys squared off.
Backhands delivered a composed showing against Volleys, dropping just one set across the night.
Adam Hellyer and Nathan Crabb were clinical in the opener, winning 7–2 over the “C21” combo of Matt Handberg and Corey Pascoe, while Peter Clark and Steve Gleeson helped seal the early ascendancy with a tiebreaker win over Brady Wauchope and Shaun Kennedy.
Volleys clenched the fourth set of the night as Kennedy and Pascoe blitzed Hellyer and Clark 7-3.
Unfortunately for them, it was the only set they could muster despite some very gallant attempts in other matches.
The final score has Backhands at 5-38 over Volleys 1-26.
