Ninjas sneak big win

TENNIS continues on in Broken Hill with some great matches unfolding across both main nights.

In the Wednesday Division One competition, Keen On Balls took on Net Ninjas in the first fixture of the night.

Keen On Balls fought gallantly taking many sets to crucial moments.

Unfortunately, Net Ninjas were steely-eyed at those times, winning five sets 37 games to one set 24 games.

Ken Caldwell and Geoff Spangler were in top flight for Net Ninjas, winning all three of their sets.

While that was happening, Feauties and Spin Doctors were doing battle.

Both sides scored one of the opening doubles sets, but it was Feauties gaining the ascendancy in the next two.

Brady Wauchope and James Meatee downed Macka Niarros and Adam Lastnamenotspecified 7-3 while Joe Worgan and Chris Stanley got up 7-5 in their double.

Snagging one of the last sets saw Feauties finish 4-33 to 2-28.

A slightly similar story went down between Macblack and Couldabeens.

Each team secured an opening double, and it happened again in the next two.

Wayne Lee and Leonie Channing partnered up to beat Ash Mason and Hamish Curtis 7-2.

Glenn Andrich and Julie Sandy made is a majority win as they bested Jack Woods and Luke Barnes 7-5.

The final score at the end of the night had Couldabeens on top at 4-35 to 2-27.

On Thursday night Topspins faced Backhands in three-man squad battle.

The opening double saw Nathan Crabb and Adam Hellyer handle with great skill an advancing Patrick Reincke and Steve Grillet 7-4.

Macka Niarros kept Topspins in touch, beating Steve Gleeson 7-1.

Reincke took on Crabb in the next singles and Reincke got the job done 7-2.

However, that was cancelled out as Hellyer and Gleeson smoked Grillet and Niarros 7-3.

It all went pear-shaped for Topspins and sublime for Backhands as they claimed the next two sets to run away with the chocolates 4-31 to 2-30.

In the second match, Dropshots faced Volleys with some very tight tennis taking place and all sides at full four-man strength.

The two opening doubles were split between the sides with the same exact scoreline 7-3, tight as you could get.

The night gan to take shape for Volleys as they claimed the next doubles 7-4 and 7-4.

Needing a set to stay in the hunt, Dropshots’ Matt Handberg and Peter Clark thumped Dale Pascoe and Ken Caldwell 7-2.

The final set of the night went down to a tiebreaker with games looking likely to decide the winner.

Brady Wauchope and Ash Mason were able to survive the breaker against Tom Kennedy and Dale Dodimead.

That set victory meant Volleys won on sets 4-33 to 2-31.
