Family First candidate makes pitch

FAMILY First’s candidate for Parkes, Maurice Davey, is a father, grandfather and fourth generation farmer, with campaign pillars centered around what Mr Davey describes as traditional strong families.

Mr Davey said he has found the cost of living to be a prevalent issue in the electorate, and that it is more connected to the energy industry than some think, with concerns net zero will worsen the rising costs crisis.

“We feel that fundamentally we have to take a broad approach to energy,” he said.

“If we just want to pursue purely the idea of wind and solar, I think that will come up short very quickly.

“We’re a party that’s open to putting all options on the table, potentially even nuclear if necessary.”

Another way to alleviate rising costs according to Mr Davey is a short-term fuel excise relief.

“It won’t be long-term but short-term just to give that immediate hip pocket relief,” he said.

The candidate’s other key campaign ideas surround the upkeep of what Mr Davey says are traditional family values and freedom of speech.

“As a party, but also as an individual, we’re particularly concerned for freedom of speech, religion, and freedom to practice,” he said.

“I think a lot of these bigger parties, particularly the Greens and Labor, are just right out of the park at the moment.

“Even the thing on gender, we just seem to have lost some logic and common sense.

“In terms of society functioning and prospering, it’s critically important that we get back to basics.

“All of this gender ideology and gender politics is really leading us astray, doing a lot of damage to our young people in particular.”
