THE Nationals pledged to restart the cancelled Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and spend more than $55.678 million on the Parkes electorate and almost $680,000 to Broken Hill through the program.
The LRCI Program allocates funding to councils to help deliver priority road and community infrastructure projects.
If the Coalition is elected, Broken Hill City Council is set to receive $369,000 for roads and nearly $311,000 for community infrastructure.
Mr Chaffey said that as a past chair of the NSW Country Mayor’s Association, he understands how important it is to back local government.
“When Labor cut the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, they increased the financial strain that our councils are already under, depriving them of the vital support they needed to improve infrastructure and keep their roads up to scratch,” Mr Chaffey said.
The new LRCI Program would see money provided through two sources worth $500 million each.
The first is the Resilience and Community Infrastructure Stream which is open to all local governments to boost disaster resilience through strengthening infrastructure.
The second is Roads Stream which aims to help councils fix road issues like potholes and improve maintenance.
Statewide, regional NSW council areas would be allocated slightly less than $238,500 million from the funds.
