Thousands stolen from ATMs

A 32-year-old Broken Hill man has been charged after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from ATMs in the area.

Barrier Police District undertook an investigation after reports of more than $700,000 in cash unaccounted for from ATMs in Broken Hill.

On Tuesday, investigators searched a home in Broken Hill and seized digital decides, ATM security tags and keys.

During the search, a man was seen driving down the street before driving away when seeing police.

The vehicle was stopped on Cummins Street where the man as arrested.

A search of the vehicle found $6235 cash, ATM security tags and keys, which were seized by police.

The man was taken to Broken Hill Police Station and charged with nine counts of larceny greater than $15,000 and knowingly dealing with proceeds of crime.

It’s alleged by police that the man accessed the ATMs as a part of his job, depositing more than $375,000 into personal and business accounts.

He was granted conditional bail and will appear in Broken Hill local court in September.
