ONE man is dead following an aircraft crash in White Cliffs on Tuesday, April 15, with the sole occupant of the craft yet to be formally identified and an investigation having already begun.
Emergency services were called to the scene, located about 260km north-east of Broken Hill, at around 7.15am on the day.
Barrier Police District officers were joined by Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance, NSW Rural Fire Service, and NSW State Emergency Service.
The aircraft crash occurred at an airstrip on White Cliffs Aerodrome Road, and the pilot died at the scene.
Inquiries lead police to believe that the deceased male was the only occupant of the aircraft.
An investigation into the crash and the circumstances surrounding it has begun, with the first step being the securing of the crime scene by police.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) have also started an investigation into the incident.
Generally the ATSB investigation process begins with evidence collection, followed by examination and analysis and then the report process.
A report will also be prepared for the coroner.
