Police track down second escaped inmate

THE second escapee from a prison break at the Broken Hill Correctional Centre on Sunday night has been located and arrested following a three-day police hunt.

Two men aged 23 and 28, escaped from the prison on Gossan Street around 9.40pm on Sunday, March 9 with the pair splitting up after the escape.

New South Wales Barrier Police District officers found and arrested the younger man, and a 31-year-old woman in his company, on the morning of Monday, March 10, after a police pursuit through Coomealla, Buronga and Gol Gol.

Police identified the second escaped inmate as 28-year-old Isaiah Johnson on Monday, March 12.

Following investigation, Mr Johnson was found inside a home in O’Neill Street, Broken Hill, at around 9.30am on Wednesday where he was arrested.

Mr Johnson charged at Broken Hill Police Station with inmate escape/attempt to escape from lawful custody.

He was refused bail and then appeared before Dubbo Local Court shortly after.

Mr Johnson will appear before the courts on Tuesday, March 18, Broken Hill Local Court. The 23-year-old man and 31-year-old woman also remain before the courts.

The younger man was also charged with inmate escape/attempt to escape from lawful custody, taking and driving conveyance without consent from owner and undertaking a police pursuit without stopping and driving recklessly.

He faced court on Tuesday, March 11 and was also refused bail.

The woman was granted conditional bail and charged with being carried in conveyance taken without consent of the owner, and will appear before Broken Hill Local Court on Tuesday, March 18.
