Club holds first women only go-kart event

THE Broken Hill Kart Club (BHKC) is holding its first ever Ladies Come-and-Try-Day this Saturday, February 15 and encouraging women young and old to get behind the wheel.

BHKC President Hayden Slattery said the club only started back up in 2024 and has since been met with a positive community reaction.

“We’ve had a very successful first year,” he said.

Slattery said the club does have some women involved, but they’d like to see more.

“We want to be inclusive of everyone; kids, juniors, seniors and ladies,” he said.

“So we decided to give the Ladies Come-and-Try-Day a go.

“We’re trying to attract all age groups whether it be cadets, juniors, seniors or young girls and women.”

Slattery said all drivers can join the club from age six with a practice licence, and can start racing at seven.

“There’s Cadet 9s, which you’re allowed to race up until the age of 10. Cadet 12s, which is the age of 13. Then you’ve got Juniors, which you can race up until the age of 16. And then Seniors after that,” he said.

Slattery said the event is the first of its kind for the club.

“This is our first ever Ladies Come-and-Try-Day,” he said.

“We’ve done them for kids and seniors, but this one is fully focused on ladies.”

“There’s already been about twelve people who’ve RSVP’d, so it’s already looking like a pretty exciting day, to be honest.”

Slattery said that there’s no pressure regarding skill levels or speed for ladies who choose to come-along.

“They can go as slow as they like, or as fast as they like; the day is purely just to come out and experience it and hopefully realise you don’t have to be a bloke to race a go-kart.”

The event is on Saturday, February 15, beginning at 3pm and costs $25 for non members for a 10 minute session.

Protective equipment and go-karts may be available to rent.

The event is also raising money for International Angelman Day, with funds going to a local family in need.

To RSVP message the BHKC Facebook page or email bhkartclub@gmail.com.
