TEENAGE harness racer Elley-May Adams secured her first winning drive last week in Mildura.
Broken Hill local, Elley-May started out alongside former local Kate Attard and family at Attard Pacing in Mildura learning the ropes.
The 18-year-old is 13 races in, and she secured her first win on board horse Super Dry who is trained by local Michael Honson and Elley-May herself.
She was reported on The Trots website as saying the win was really special.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling to get your first winner and I still can’t believe it actually happened,” she told the media outlet.
The teenager managed to snatch the win in the Club Merbein Pace after beginning from barrier 10.
She avoided trouble from gallopers inside her after the start and manoeuvred Super Dry expertly through the early stages to pounce on the back of the leader Bring My Bling (Ryan Backhouse).
“The amount of positivity and encouragement the Mildura Harness Racing Club and trainers gave Elley on her journey and especially after her win was amazing,” mum Heidi Adams said.
“The support they all show her down there is just heartwarming to watch.
“They all congratulated her and hugged her and really made the experience next level.”
Elley-May had to complete 10 trial drives to gain her licence to drive in races which she completed in March this year before beginning her harness racing career.
She competes in rodeos throughout Victoria and South Australia most weekends, and during the week trains pacers alongside Mr Honson at their Broken Hill stables.
She also owns Village Lover who she drove on Friday night as well, who came home with a fourth.
