Remote skills training on offer

FOR the first time, rural doctors will be able to apply for the Remote Medicine Advanced Skills Training post outside of hospital settings, thanks to an initiative by the Australian College for Rural and Remote Medicine, and the Royal Flying Doctor Service South East Section.

The one-year program offers registrars the hands-on experience required to help them advance their skills required to deliver high quality car in resource-limited settings.

ACRRM board director and RFDSSE’s chief medical officer Shannon Nott said the training will help participants to excel in leadership roles in remote and rural health.

“This Remote Medicine Advanced Skills Training post aims to give registrars the hands-on experience and clinical knowledge needed to deliver high-quality care in some of Australia’s most remote communities,” Dr Nott said.

“Through this post, registrars will build the confidence and capability to thrive in rural and remote practice.”

Participants will be based at a primary care hub and can choose from two key locations: Western NSW Network (Warren, Gilgandra / Condobolin Hub) or Far West NSW Network (Broken Hill).

They will work as part of a team of health professionals such as nurses, allied health, first nations health workers and more.

Dr Nott said the program is an exciting opportunity for those wanting to work in regional healthcare.

“For those passionate about remote medicine, this is an unparalleled opportunity to challenge yourself, build invaluable skills, and work with an organisation that leaves a lasting impact on the lives of those in regional, rural and remote communities,” he said.

“Ultimately, we want to grow the next generation of rural generalists who are passionate about making a difference and committed to supporting communities across remote Australia.”

The position will be open to ACRRM-registered registrars. Interested applicants can find out more information here.
