Dale Tonkin
North v South
BOTH teams started well, but there were a few skill errors, players missing targets and fumbling early.
However halfway through, the quarter things improved. South did a great job finding their loose, whilst North finally started to get their run back with handball receives.
The first quarter ended with South a couple of goals up.
North started to own the second quarter with run and team work. Quinton Bevan continued to repeat lead and kicked a few snags around the corner.
South returned the favour with a couple of their own. Nug Purcell continued to run and set up play whilst applying pressure.
South’s juniors are continuing to develop and make significant contributions to their structure.
Mitch Henderson played his first game for the season and looked good and he will be better for the run.
At halftime South were up by 20 points or so.
The second was a contrast as South stamped their authority and completely owned the half.
I must admit Jake Borlace was a standout for north at chf, whilst Rhys Pitt — when he got his opportunity — did some excellent passages of play and pressure acts, but South had an even contribution throughout.
Their ability to find their spare was due to the way they set up the ground and used the ball.
In my opinion, North need to find some urgency and be more desperate in a contest.
I’m not counting the Dogs out but today was all about the Roos.; they showed their class and stability.
In the end, the Roos ran out the best part of a 10-goal victory — a significant outcome
