WHAT an inspiration this game must have been.
The Cock Robins recorded their first win for the year.
It’s been a long time coming but they kept working each week and got their just rewards.
I can’t remember the last time West won out the Alma Oval, but I know it’s been a very long time.
So good on the Robins.
I bet South were devasted but their a proud club and would have taken some learning from the game.
Imagine if this game was an elimination final. Gee whiz, could you imagine the outrage?
The Robins would have partied from the rooftops Saturday night. And good on them, they deserve to.
Robins ran away 7 point winners in the end. What a result, what a win.
Definitely changes the perspective on the rest of the season.
Westie’s challenge is to back it up in a fortnight’s time against Central as we have a split round this week.
North v Central
CONDITIONS made this game a little dour. Both teams played a kick n’ catch game — no run from behind or run to receive.
Maybe the conditions out there were that bad, North dominated the ground ball while Central had the advantage in the air.
Mind you, it would have been tough out there the way the wind swirled around.
North kicked the city end to start the game. Poor kicking only allowed them to put two majors on the board.
Central got one into the breeze and it was game on. Both teams tried hard but to me there was no shape around the ball.
Really, it was a Russian roulette game. The best passages of play were in the last quarter, I thought where Central tried to gain territory from the centre bounces.
In the end, North had a good last quarter against the wind and ran out 15 points victors. Pleasing thing for me was North’s fitness levels held up as they ran out the game.
I thought this might be a weakness of theirs, but there was no signs of it.
I think both sides had quite a lot of players out.
North’s team looked suspect on paper but they turn up and get the job done, a scary thought as when they get their full list together, they will be damaging.
