BHNL season hits the halfway point

Dale Tonkin

WELL, we are nearly at the halfway point of our season so here’s a review of each team.

South, on top of the ladder, haven’t done much wrong at this stage. They look strong and well organised; probably the fittest team in the comp.

Can they keep their composure throughout the second part of the season and finish minor premiers?

They do have challengers in North and Central. But their game has been pretty solid to this stage, and I can only see them getting stronger. Their juniors have been very good, and their more experienced players are getting the job done. Expect good things.

Moving forward, North are still playing good football.

We are yet to see some key players, but when we do we will see the Dogs stamp a bit of authority on the competition.

There’s so much upside to their game, in my observation.

If I had to pick out a negative, it would be their fitness levels and trying to change a game plan to suit what opposition their playing, I’ve never heard of but let’s stay on the positives.

They’re the reigning premiers for a reason and once they can get their full list together, they will make a difference. Their cross section of youth and experience is vast. I think they will at least make a grand final and I think their good enough to win it. That’s just my opinion.

Central crept up on everyone. They’ve shown what they can do; they could be the smokey in the second half.

I like their contested ball area and they are difficult to move off the ball. Their key positional players get the job done and their just a threat all over the ground.

For me, it’s a watch this space for the Maggies as they could just upset the competition. I like what they do.

Just keep being consistent in what they do and who knows what might be.

West are yet to win a game, but will be handed a spot in our final system. Makes me wonder.

Anyway, West have made effort in each game. To be honest the cattle isn’t quite there and we need to give their juniors time to develop.

I have said this before; fast-track the juniors and get a few new recruits in and they will be away.

Westies’ attitude has changed for the better and I think their coaching staff is getting the best out of them. Their ruck looks good, and to me Cody McEvoy, Patrick Attard and Cohen Baites look to be the future.

So good luck everyone for the second half and finals, and go the Pies.
