Central seeking three in a row

Dale Tonkin

West v Central

I’m not sure the last time Central won three in a row but it could be on the cards today.

The Maggies defeated North last week, and the Roos the week prior.

The Robins continue to get exposed by the opposition.

I don’t think it’s due to lack of effort, moreso personal and inexperienced West leaders need to step up.

Daniel Milne, Jordan Tonkin and the likes need to show the young ones the way and grind a win out, but Central are playing like a well connected team.

I love their key positional players and their midfield looks quite solid.

Jones and Etto, just to name a couple, they really don’t lose the contested ball and they can hurt you the other way.

For that reason, I’m going the Maggies this week, 27 points.

Enjoy the footy, everyone.

South v North

Roos are coming off a comfortable win and the Dogs are coming off a narrow loss.

South’s confidence would be up. They have star quality, but for me it’s their role players that get the job done; guys like Alex Johnson who never give up and plays his role accordingly.

The Dogs need to fight and scrap for a win, extend themselves and get an extra five to 10 per cent out of themselves.

They will need to do this with Kel out of the team with a hammy, but it’s really not the playing group’s lack of effort as they’re always trying.

I think it’s more their shape around the ball, their inability to slow the game down, so they play on their terms and tempo.

South will play the game with the tempo they’re comfortable with and it’s high speed and a territory game.

The thing I like most about South is their ability to win the ball back and then transition.

The Dogs really need the four points as they will fall behind if they don’t.

I tipped the Dogs for the flag.

I just want to see some vigour and fight from them, but today, due to the loss of their star veteran who controls everything on the ground, I’m going to have to go for the Roos by 30 points.

Beware South’s midfield this week. I think they will get the job done, inside and out.
