Dogs and Roos should be close

Dale Tonkin

ON the weekend we saw North take care of West quite easily and an upset brewed out at the memorial with the Maggies beating the Roos.

Yes, the Roos had quite a lot of players out, but with that, quite a lot of players came in.

Central still had to get the job done and they did.

The Dogs made it look like a training drill against the Robins; the only thing we didn’t see was cones on the ground.

Let’s move our thoughts to round four, Dogs v Roos — match of the round.

Now that all teams have had the experience of playing each other and it’s two wins to each team (except the Robins who sit on zero), we will see a different approach to each game.

North v South

Can see this going down to the wire.

North still have a few tough bushies to come in, like Tom Cahill and Jack Russel, but it’s their kids for me that will make the difference in Talan Pitt and Logan Ferguson.

They are settled senior footballers now, and South juniors are good but they are yet to secure their positions.

I’m still hard on the fact that if and when Mitchell Henderson plays, it will change South’s entire dynamics. However, I don’t think he is due to play just yet.

Having said that, if North can tighten their stoppage work up and equalise around the contested ball that will go a long way to winning the game.

But they need to find field position, then utilise their lanes.

South are really good at creating field position and that’s were they can hurt you.

But this weekend, I’m going the Dogs in a slight upset; Dogs by a goal for me.

Central v West

The Maggies have gotten under everyone’s guard and, like I said a few weeks ago, if you come underprepared to play the Maggies, you will get caught.

The Robins really haven’t showed much so far this year, but I like their effort and endeavour, and Cody McEvoy and Patty Attard have had a good start to the season but they need everyone contributing and working together.

I think the Maggies will get the job done again this week.

Their key position players will be much to handle for the Robins, and I like the way the Maggiess win the contested ball.

I’m going the Magpies by 27 points.

Enjoy the footy, everyone.
