Locals abuzz for bee hotel workshop

IMPERIAL Lakes Nature Park’s bee hotel making workshop had a huge attendance on the weekend, with co-ordinator Selen Bilal saying the success of the event will inspire more community workshops.

“It was warming to see how many people turned up, and new members,” she said.

“It was such a beautiful diverse age range, we had from three-year-olds up to 70-year-olds, so it was great to see that connection shared at the lakes on that day.”

Attendees made bee hotels from natural and recycled materials to house native bees in their backyards.

“It was really nice to see everyone’s individual flair in their creations,” Ms Bilal said.

“It would be nice to touch base and see what bees everyone attracts in their gardens with their native bee hotels.”

Ms Bilal said the intent of the workshop was not only to bring community together at the park but also to encourage conversations about sustainability.

“Through these educational workshops that we want to run and future events, it’s a way to draw people to the lakes and share knowledge and be on the land creating together,” she said.

“Having these open ended conversations, it’s the base of what forms community around nature and art. So it’s amazing to see so many turn up and also we received great feedback on future events and workshops at the lakes.”

Ms Bilal said the next event planned is a film screening.

“We’re looking at creating an outdoor cinema event and inviting everyone to bring their own picnic over sunset while watching an environmental documentary,” she said.
