Goat and sheep electronic identification roadshow

NEW South Wales Local Land Services will host sheep and goat electronic identification events in Cobar, Broken Hill and Wentworth this week, with presentations about how to use and benefit from EID technology.

Presenters Sally Martin from Sheep Metrix, Lynda Watson from Western Local Land Services and Kieran Smith from Western Local Land Services will be discussing tips and tricks for tagging, steps to collecting data and more.

As of January 1, graziers have been required to tag all sheep and goats born with electronic identification prior to them leaving the property of their birth.

This will mean all movement of livestock is able to be recorded on the National Livestock Identification Scheme, in order to enhance livestock traceability, biosecurity and better manage disease.

Lynda Watson from Western Local Land Services said all landholders were welcome to attend the roadshow, though a RSVP was needed to ensure adequate catering at the event.

“New South Wales is currently transitioning to individual electronic identification for sheep and goats so the roadshow is to help people find out how to get the most out of this technology,” Ms Watson said.

“I’m here to support landholders in this process and encourage everybody to come along to the sessions to find out what support is available.”

RSVPs can be sent via the online form at https://comms.lls.nsw.gov.au/pub/pubType/EO/pubID/zzzz6758e13c1eda3420/interface.html or by contacting Lynda Watson on 0427 200 820 or lynda.watson@lls.nsw.gov.au

All events run from 8.30am-3.15pm and include complimentary morning tea and lunch: Cobar Golf and Bowls Club – Tuesday 4 February; Broken Hill Demo Club – Wednesday 5 February; Wentworth (Anabranch Hall) – Thursday 6 February.
