FOR a guy who sees so many ghosts, Peter Williams sure laughs a lot.
A psychic medium who connects people with their dearly departed, Mr Williams recalls one episode in which the spirit wasn’t taking things terribly seriously.
“So, I tend to see spirits before they speak, so that way I can give a physical description of what they look like,” he said.
“You’ve got height, hair style, hair colour, facial features, clothes, you know. But sometimes there’s no clothes.
“We had one guy who came through standing in a bathtub,” Mr Willams laughed, “because he passed away in a bathtub, and he dropped his towel.
“At first no one wanted to own him, and then as soon as he did that, this the lady goes, ‘Oh my god, he’s mine … He used to do that all the time!’”
Originally a teacher by trade, Mr Williams, who has been a full-time psychic for 12 years, claims to have been able to communicate with the dead since he was a boy.
“When I was, like, 12 or 13, I went looking for it,” he explained. “I just knew there was something more than this world, so I found some exercises about meditation and that was it. I just fell in love with the whole world.”
Naturally, there are plenty of suspicious types who accuse Mr Williams of laughing all the way to the bank.
“Well, there are two different types of doubters,” he said. “There are sceptics, and they’re not a problem. They just want a bit of evidence and that’s cool. I’m actually a very healthy sceptic myself – if you tell me something, I’m not going to just take your word for it.
“But then, of course, you’ve got your cynics and, for them, mate, there’s no hope. They’re just so fixated on a very negative world. Like, you know, I’m not knocking on your door making you believe it. The idea is just to demonstrate there is something more than this world, and just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.”
Mr Williams believes his gift can not only provide comfort to the grieving but can also serve as a reminder that the dead are always watching over the things they love.
“I remember one particular one, he kept talking about his toolbox,” Mr Williams laughed, “and it was like, he says his toolbox didn’t go to the person that he wanted it to.
“This toolbox was actually a three-generation toolbox, and it was taken while he was in hospital – someone actually went to the house and took the toolbox before he passed.
“The family were going, ‘Oh, my God, we were wondering whether he knew about that’. I told them he knew about it and said not to worry.
“So, yeah, every connection is different. I like it when they say, ‘What are you going to do with my ashes, because I’m tired of them being stuck up in the top cupboard!”
Peter Williams, psychic medium, will be appearing at the Civic Centre on Wednesday, August 27 at 7.30pm.
