Makers Market returns for winter solstice

THE Broken Hill Art Exchange will host their first makers market of the year this weekend, showcasing artwork by local makers from the Kitchen Gallery at The Grand.

Art Exchange volunteer Greta Hector said a varied array of creative practices will be on display and for sale, and that purchasing from the artists is a great way for the community to support local art.

“We’re really encouraging people to come down and support local makers,” she said.

As well as the market stalls, there’ll be a sausage sizzle for attendees.

Ms Hector said all market stalls were booked out swiftly and artisans involved have been busy making goods for the day.

“There will be lots of handcrafted artworks and objects by local artist,” she said.

“Come down and meet local creatives, get a coffee at the deli next door, get a sausage.

“It’s a really good way to bridge the gap between creatives and makers and those looking for handmade and unique things, we’re really trying to engage the community in the local art scene.

“It’s the perfect place to buy your Christmas in July presents!”

The Winter Solstice Makers Market will be held on Saturday, June 28 between 9am and 1pm, in the kitchen gallery which can be found in the courtyard of the Art Exchange and the Deli Cafe, at 313 Argent Street.
