Art Exchange residencies return

THE Broken Hill Art Exchange has announced funding for six artist residencies for spring.

The creative development residencies will offer three week residency including free accommodation, a free studio space, transport costs and allowances covered, a guided tour on Country with Wontanella tours and opportunities to meet with local artists.

President of the Art Exchange, Susanne Rae Jones, said the first residency series last year had been incredibly successful and the Art Exchange were thrilled to offer the series again, this time with additional incentives such as transport costs being covered.

“We’ve managed to get funding for transport to Broken Hill, and also engage someone to help administer it,” she said.

“A lot of people can’t get here until they’re retired, so this is an opportunity for young artists to come out.”

Ms Jones said the residency will offer a program of workshops to the local Broken Hill community.

“We’ll have a big program of workshops, hosted by the artists that are staying,” she said.

“We’ll also have an event at the end as well.”

Ms Jones said funding had been secured to engage local artists to mentor the visiting artists.

“We’ve secured funding for local artists to mentor the visiting artists,” she said.

“So we’ll be calling for local artists who might be interested in that.”

Artists are invited to apply to develop new work while responding to the heritage and landscape of Far West New South Wales.

Artists are required to present either an artist talk, open studio or workshop as part of the residency.

The residencies will run from Monday, September 8 until Tuesday, September 30.

The program is supported by the NSW Government via Create NSW.https://www.brokenhillartexchange.org.au/bhaespring25
