BELOVED performing arts program Pulse Broken Hill is set to return to town for its third year, with more than 964 local students to perform in the event.
Pulse Broken Hill is part of Pulse Alive, a large-scale performing opportunity for New South Wales public school students, hosted annually at Sydney’s Ken Rosewall Arena.
Broken Hill is one of four tour stops – alongside Sunraysia, Moree, and Deniliquin – designed to provide rurally based students with performance opportunities they might not otherwise have access to.
Local students will participate in two days of workshops run by travelling students and tutors, which will then culminate in a performance on Thursday, May 22, at the Broken Hill Civic Centre.
There will be 20 touring students bringing Pulse Alive to Broken Hill, including Amber Muller from Moree and Max Burrows from Broken Hill, who both performed in Pulse Alive and Pulse Moree.
Burrows, who is in year 12 at Broken Hill High School, said she’s excited to be performing for her hometown.
“Pulse Alive and Pulse Moree have been such wonderful experiences, and I can’t wait to share the joy of the arts with Broken Hill,” she said,
“It’s going to be such a fun week.”
Pulse Alive’s executive producer Simon Kermode said he is keen to return to Broken Hill.
“We’re so pleased to be coming back to Broken Hill to provide a large-scale performing arts opportunity for the students of Broken Hill’s public schools,” he said.
Kermode also said he’s had plenty of positive feedback about the program from teachers and students alike, with one local teacher saying, “The Pulse workshops were extremely engaging and went for just the right amount of time for the K/1 students.”
“I love the feeling I get when I am participating in music and dance, but even more rewarding is seeing the joy it brings to my students.”
Pulse Broken Hill will be on stage at the Broken Hill Civic Centre on Thursday, May 22 with the performance set to start at 5pm.
