Mural works get OK

THE Pro Hart Mural at the airport terminal is set to undergo restoration and remedial works.

Broken Hill City Council voted to proceed with the removal of the glass panels to undertake the works.

Municipal officers will also look at an alternate option to secure the artwork from interference.

In November 2024, Delta Conservation was awarded the contract to undertake restoration works on ten of the Broken Hill City Council’s public art works.

After inspecting the Pro Hart mural Miner’s Kids, Dragonfly and Locusts, Delta Conservation recommended the removal of the protective glass barrier.

They stated the minimum cost of yearly removal for maintenance and cleaning would be approximately $15,000.

The existing glass is also non-compliant with current safety standards.

Replacement with compliant material in accordance with a 2023 public art condition report is in excess of $100,000.

Delta Conservation quoted almost $398,000 for a non-reflective Perspex shield to replace the glass from floor to ceiling. But stated glare will still likely persist.

Another option is a clear, Perspex people barrier 800 millimetres high.

This was recommended in APV Valuers & Asset Management final valuation of the Broken Hill City Council Artwork Assets from June 2021.
