Doors open on new gallery

ADAM Edwards, a Broken Hill landscape photographer and photography tutor, opened his new gallery space at 40 Crystal Street last weekend.

The studio and gallery, aptly named The Gallery, offers an exhibition of Edward’s work, a meeting, function or workshop space, and a few private offices to be rented under a hot-desk arrangement.

Edwards began work on the former 4WD accessories store opposite the Line of Lode at the start of January, completely transforming the space, predominantly on his own in a DIY manner.

“I wouldn’t want to know how many hours I put into it!” he said.

“But the reality is I’ve had lots of help from friends.”

He said the last eight weeks of work had been particularly gruelling due to a particularly hot start to the year.

“Honestly the biggest struggle was the heat because January was so hot,” he said.

Edwards said over the two opening events on Friday and Saturday he saw over one hundred people through the space.

“People love it, they were really impressed with how high standard it was,” he said.

Edwards encouraged anyone interested to visit the space, and that if anyone has a need for a business or creative space to have a chat with him.

“It’s here not just as my gallery, but as a facility for Broken Hill as well,” he said.
