Three new exhibitions spotlight the Outback

THIS evening the Broken Hill City Art Gallery will celebrate the launch of three new exhibitions with an opening night event.

Guests are invited to attend to enjoy an evening of art, artist talks, a light supper and bar facilities in celebration of the new works presented in Blow Back Ins, Outback Inspiration and Outback and Beyond.

Blow Back Ins will showcase the work of a group of artists who visited the town in May 2024 as part of a creative exploration.

The group drew on inspiration from the town and surrounds to create work reflecting the regions beauty and character.

The Potters Society will present ceramic work inspired by the rugged landscapes, vivid colours and natural wonders of the outback and works feature traditional hand-building techniques with innovating firing processes.

Willyama Art Society will present The Outback and Beyond, which invites viewers to reimagine the outback through unexpected interpretations and perspectives.

Works range thematically from light hearted to dystopian and provocative and the exhibition aspires to challenge perceptions of life in remote regions throughout Australia.

Gallery manager Kathy Graham said the series of exhibitions will spotlight artistic responses to the Far West region.

“These exhibitions celebrate the diverse ways artists respond to our region, from those who travel here and absorb its unique essence, to those who call Broken Hill home,” she said.

“We’re delighted to share this dynamic mix of perspectives and artistic voices with our community.”

The opening night event commences, Friday, February 7 at 6pm and entry is free.
