LOCAL band Leroy Johnson and The Waterbag Band spent the long weekend in Sydney, performing on January 26 at the La Perouse Headland festival event, Culture on Country.
The band shared the stage with a lineup including Uncle Vic Simms & The All Star Band, Cianna Walker & Olivia Fox, Akala Newman, Kobie Dee and Doonooch Dancers.
Johnson said he was thrilled to have been able to bring his band to Sydney to perform.
“It was such an honour to be invited to play at the Culture on Country festival in La Perouse,” he said.
“To be able to share our music and stories from the Far West always makes me proud. I’m extremely grateful to The Waterbag Band for following me such a long way to help promote out music and let the big city mob see what we have to offer.
“I want to thank the organisers for giving us a chance to do this gig.”
The festival, which is hosted by Randwick City Council, celebrates survival, resistance, and the power of First Nations culture.
