THE Palace Hotel in Broken Hill hosted the final performance of the Outback Tour recently, after the event had travelled throughout Far West New South Wales.
The show featured three original acts selected from more than three hundred throughout regional NSW.
Curated by MusicNSW in collaboration with local Broken Hill producer Bush Witch Productions, the tour saw the musicians perform on three nights at Cobar Golf Club, Wilcannia Golf Club, and ending at The Palace Hotel.
“The idea of the tour is to strengthen touring networks and also get regional musicians familiar with booking venues in regional areas,” said Aimee Volkofsky from Bush Witch Productions.
“This is kind of like a trial run for this idea to support regional musicians to be able to tour regionally.
“We were overwhelmed with applications and wanted to ensure we prioritized indigenous artists and having an equal balance of women and men, and also of course based it on the talent of the bands.
“Of course original music was a big factor too, we didn’t want to just invest in touring a cover band.”
The performers selected were Megan Woods from Orange, Baedan Faint from Cobar, and Bathurst based band Liquid Culture.
“It’s really unique for a group of relatively unknown musicians to go on a whole set of shows playing only original music,” said Faint.
Woods said she was thrilled to be offered the opportunity to take part in the Outback Tour.
“Being on the road was life changing in so many ways” she said.
“The Palace was truly special and unique, and the crowd’s energy was electric.”
Ms Volkofsky said the tour was a success, with about 150 heading to the shows.
“The audience were really thrilled to see new music and experience something they hadn’t before, and the bands felt very welcomed and embraced by the Far West community,” she said.
