Back to school on horizon

AS school holidays come to an end next week, parents across the region are preparing for their kids to start the 2025 school year.

For the Breuker family, this school year is a special one with 11-year-old Chase Breuker in his last year of primary school at Sacred Heart Parish School, and his five-year-old sister Lyla Breuker starting kindergarten.

Sacred Heart is starting term 1 on Tuesday, February 11 and Wednesday, February 12 for kinder kids, while public schools begin on Thursday, February 13.

Chase and Lyla’s mum Samantha Breuker said she’s happy for some routine to be back in the family’s life, and for a landmark year to begin.

“Lyla starts kindy this year and Chase is in year 6, so it’s a bit of a milestone year,” she said.

“Our baby’s starting school while first born is finishing primary school.

“Lyla’s really excited. I think she’s been ready for a while, she’s sick of day care.”

Lyla and her brother will be attending Sacred Heart together, which Ms Breuker said they’re both happy about.

“Chase is actually really excited to have her there,” she said.

“She’s got a few friends going that she went to preschool with.

“There’s a group of them there that she knows, which is good.

“She’s ready to go, she’s missing her friends, and she loved going to orientation last year.”
