WEST B grade narrowly missed out on the cricket grand final win against Warriors on the weekend.
Warriors secured the game to win by 29 runs in the 23rd over.
West won the toss to start the day and sent the Warriors into bat.
Chris West and Rhys Pavlich opened the batting for Warriors, the openers proved their prowess hitting fours and holding off West for nine overs.
It wasn’t until Angus Baxter caught Pavlich off a ball from Jawad Azam that West received a reprieve.
Clint Pearce came in and made 10 before being caught by Austin Ferguson.
Chris West fell shortly after being caught by Colby Stenhouse on 19.
Shane Dalby and Liam King were in for Warriors next, securing a number of runs with a slew of fours and sixes.
Azam was able to bowl Dalby in the 20th over before Dalby could inflict any more damage after making 43.
The run rates slowed as King seemed to have a niggling injury.
Ashley Bates was the next wicket for Warriors, making six before being caught by Ben McInerney.
King was then bowled by Phil Summers on 18. Lachlan Bell was caught for a duck by Sage Hocking to end the innings for the Warriors in the 30th over.
Underwood remained not out on 21. This brought the Warriors’ total to 154.
Azam and Daniel Milne opened the batting for West. Warriors managed to keep the run rate down until the third over when Milne hit Dalby for two fours.
It was short lived however, when Chris West caught Azam in the fourth over for two runs.
Despite a knock of 25, Milne was caught out by Josef Niedermayer in the sixth over.
Austin Ferguson came out to make a number of fours and sixes but was caught by Dalby on 13.
McInerney then came out to make two and was caught by Pavlich in the 11th over.
Tonkin was bowled LBW by Kennedy to make the tally 5 – 66.
Sage Hocking was next to fall, making 10, and was bowled by Chris West.
It looked dire for West until Jack Burke came out and settled in to make some much needed runs.
Burke hit Tom Kennedy across the pitch, making fours and sixes in quick succession.
West looked in for the win until Dalby caught Burke on 33.
Stenhouse was then caught by Underwood at 14 runs.
Baxter was dismissed on three being caught by Kennedy before Summers was bowled by Lachlan Bell for a duck.
West came close to the win, but at the end of the day Warriors proved too strong with their bowling and batting.
