South supreme in B grade

SOUTH’S momentum in B grade shows no signs of abating as they registered back-to-back wins when they comfortably chased down Centrals in their round 7 contest.

South have been building up to this moment and the struggles of pushing through and persevering are finally paying off for the club.

Michael Gray and Josh Hands did the damage with bat and bowl respectively as the tight South’s outfit was rewarded again with another fine victory.

South loss the toss and were sent into field.

Hands and Gray opened up the bowling for South. Hards started his spell off a little shaky but soon found his groove and snagged a wicket in his first over.

Gray was finding that perfect line and length. His first two overs were maidens and set the tone for the game.

The south team rallied together in the field, stopping certain boundaries and putting pressure on the Central batters.

The next bowling pair was Aneesh George and Michael Webeck. The pair were bowling tight overs with Webeck’s first over being a wicket maiden.

Drinks saw Central 3/49.

Captain Gray was pleased with his teams effort and told the team to be proud of themselves for getting a good position.

The fielding from South was exceptional. Five of the wickets came from some great catches.

Ash Christos put on display of some excellent wicket keeping skills.

With a few fielding changes the lads were in a good spot. Aneesh George finished his spell off with two wickets. Thompson Thomas came in for a bowl. We all knew what he can do with the bat and now we know he can back that up with his bowling.

Webeck finished his spell off by taking two more wickets. Josh Hands had two overs left to bowl and did it in high fashion with two wicket maidens. His last over was spectacular, with a clean bowled taking out the stumps to the next ball taking a catch off his own bowling. He was on a hat-trick ball. Hands was so close to pulling it off, he finished his spell with four wickets.

Thomas finished off the Central team with a beautiful catch going to A. Pala.

Central all out for 108.

Results: J. Hands 4/12, M. Webeck 3/20, A. George 2/24.

The Roos knew that it was not going to be an easy task when Paul Nicholas and Tom Landford walked out to the pitch.

The pair kept their cool and played some classy shots.

Lachie Erskine joined Nicholas at the crease. The left-and-right-handed combo were kept Central’s bowlers at bay.

It was time for Gray to pad up. Like many times before, Nicholas and Gray showed South’s unwillingness to not go down without a fight.

Between the two they would put on a partnership of 44 runs and leave South in a good position of 3/84 at drinks.

M. Gray has been in good form of late and carried this into the clash. Brijesh Chauhan would now join Gray.

It only took Chauhan four balls before he launched the ball over the boundary. But Gray was the mainstay as he led his team to victory as South chased down the total in the 20th over.

Results: M. Gray 45 off 47, P. Nicholas 24 off 45, B. Chauan 14 off 18.
