South’s strong effort

SOUTH Women’s first win of the day started at the coin toss, with stand-in captain Abbey Johns electing to bat first.

It was Johns and Alice Edmonson were sent in to open the batting, making some quick run early in the piece.

This was one of the Edmonson’s first games batting and she showed some real class and played as if she was an experienced player, hitting a lovely four and plenty of singles.

It was also Natalie Harris first time batting in a game, and just like Edmondson, she looked like an absolute pro and as well as making some quick singles, clipped a beautiful shot over the slips sending the ball for four runs.

A familiar partnership was now in action with Lakisha Sloane joining Johns after the fall of Harris.

The pair notched up a few more runs, pushing quick singles, and Sloane adding some power to the shots, sneaking in a couple of two’s.

Johns was dismissed in the 15th over, sending in Lily McCure.

It didn’t take McCure long to get comfortable, hitting some nice shots and taking every opportunity to run and Sloane continued her steady flow of runs before being caught out.

Grace Faulder then headed in to join McCure and she played the role support perfectly.

The pair saw the innings through and helped notch up a total of 148

To bowling innings Sloane took the ball and pulled off a beautiful caught and bowled on only her second ball of the over, dismissing Centrals first batter.

Sloane’s 2nd wicket fell in the last over with a shot clipped and caught by Johns, dismissing central’s one of longstanding batters.

McCure followed suit with some incredibly neat bowling, with two maidens in a row, and going for only seven runs off her four overs.

Maalste stepped up to the crease, and showed just how hard she has been working on her bowling.

Brooke Jordan in her debut game took a couple of overs, displaying some nice line and length.

Johns swapped the gloves for the ball, bowling three overs in the second half of the game, one of which was a maiden.
