Council looks back on year so far

THE first six months of 2025 has seen Broken Hill City Council achieve a number of projects with more looking to be finished by the end of the year.

Mayor Cr Tom Kennedy spoke at the June council meeting about the achievements of council’s first six months for 2025.

“We actually had a small surplus, which is always good to do, good to get,” he said.

“It’s our second surplus in a row; it’s been over 20 years since we’d had those surpluses.

“So, for the community, it’s a really good thing, considering you’ve had projects delivered like the Town Square (redevelopment), almost delivered the library and also delivered the Netball redevelopment.

“A lot of things have happened.

“Also, a lot of the paving down Argent Street, the lighting’s being finished, a lot of things have happened in this year, and we’ve still managed to come in just under budget.

“Everyone in the community should be proud of that.”

Cr Kennedy said council will continue to work towards delivering their projects.

“That includes the library, but also start to development at the airport, and that’ll include the additional sealed parking spaces for people that are using the airport terminal,” he said.
