THE New South Wales Government is offering to run free workshops to train regional and rural women with essential skills in first aid, mental health and crisis support throughout the state between May and November this year.
NSW has the highest proportion of any state or territory of adults who have never trained in first aid at 33 per cent.
Co-ordinated by the Rural Women’s Network in collaboration with St John Ambulance, the Rural Women’s Network Skills Roadshow program will seek to deliver 30 free workshops for up to 450 women across 15 regional locations.
The program aims to impart skills to respond effectively in emergency situations, recognise mental health issues, recognise situations where people may be in imminent crisis, provide appropriate interventions and learn where to direct people for further support.
Participants will receive an accredited certification once they’ve completed their training.
Minister for Women, Jodie Harrison, said women across the state will benefit from the training.
“For the first time women across regional and rural NSW, from Ballina to Broken Hill to Bega, will have access to free first aid and mental health training thanks to this program,” she said.
The training will be offered in Broken Hill on August 22 and 23.
