Community grants up for grabs

THE second round of funding from Transgrid’s Far West NSW Community Partnerships Program is now open for applications, with community groups and not-for-profit invited to apply.

The program is aiming to boost local projects as part of Transgrid’s commitment to providing $500,000 for community groups in areas affected by the October 2024 power outages.

Executive general manager of stakeholder, regulatory and corporate affairs Maryanne Graham said not-for-profits are the lifeblood of communities like Broken Hill.

“Not-for-profit organisations are the lifeblood of the region, and we’re excited to launch the second round of funding with grants of up to $10,000 to support even more community initiatives,” Ms Graham said.

“The outstanding response and quality of applications in our previous round reinforced just how vital these groups are to the Far West, and we were delighted to provide 44 community organisations with a total of $300,000 in grants to support their important work.”

For example, Landcare Broken Hill applied and was granted funds for its Greening the Hill Mk.2 initiative.

Landcare used this money to purchase a portable generator, which has been powering works on the Imperial Lakes site.

Landcare Broken Hill president Simon Molesworth said access to reliable power is vital to make the Imperial Lakes project happen.

“This grant enables us to safely power our operations focused on regreening the environment, whilst continuing to create our stunning nature,” he said.

“We are extremely grateful to Transgrid for their generous support, which is helping us build a greener, more resilient future for our club and community.”

Applications for the Community Partnerships Program round two close on Friday, May 23, 2025.
