Outdoor pool to stay open

AFTER a big public response, the Broken Hill Aquatic Centre has decided to keep the 50 metre pool open until the end of April.

Traditionally, the outdoor pools close with the change of daylight savings.

YMCA Broken Hill Wellness Centre cluster manager Justin Hoskins said it was a decision made by the local council.

“Council own the pool, so we are held by the decision council made,” he said. “We liaise with them and they said as daylight saving ends.

“It’s their facility, we just manage it.

“But we, and council, heard from quite a few members and patrons that they would like it to stay open longer.”

Mr Hoskins said it was an easy decision to make to keep the pool open longer.

“It’s what people wanted, so we put it back to the end of April,” he said. “It is a bit quieter but it is at the time when it starts to slow down.

“Keeping it open has made people happy and that’s really important to us.

“It was a simple sort of thing to happen and it was the right thing for Council and us to do.”
