FORMER Broken Hill locals, Sandra and Peter Lean, are no strangers to travel having been on multiple trips in recent years.
When the pair, born and bred in Broken Hill, moved to Wollongong they became heavily involved in the local Apex group, which has a tradition of participants showcasing their hometown on a member’s-trip.
“When members get a little bit older and have a bit more time they start to showcase their hometown,” Ms Lean said.
“So they’d go to Yass and everybody would wander down to Yass or Orange or Newcastle.”
It took 12 months of planning, but following a request from eager Apex members, the Leans are about to bring 22 friends on a week-long adventure in Broken Hill, all organised and planned by Ms Lean.
“So we’re all coming out on the Outback Explorer on Monday, March 10, and I’ve organised a local guide to pick us up and drop us off at our accommodation,” she said.
“We’ve got 12 people staying in a motel, and then 10 people staying in our cottage.”
The week-long trip begins with visits to the Geocentre, Silver City Mint, Pro Heart and new RFDS center on Tuesday, and finishes the following Monday with a recovery day from the St Pats Races.
The group has jam-packed days in between, and returns the following Tuesday after the races.
A river cruise in Menindee, a synagogue visit and gin-tasting at the Tydvil are amongst the other activities on the agenda.
“We’re sharing the love and the money around town,” Ms Lean said.
