Lunch to celebrate women

AN annual International Women’s Day lunch will be held at The Astra, facilitated by the Broken Hill Local Domestic Violence Committee.

The luncheon on March 8 will see attendees served a two course meal, and music and guest speakers providing entertainment.

President of the Broken Hill Domestic Violence Committee, Eleanor Blows, said the IWD events are usually a breakfast, but as this year it falls on a weekend, a longer, relaxed lunch to celebrate women was in order.

“It’s a celebration of women, a get-together to celebrate us and our achievements,” she said.

Guest speakers are Gigi Barbe, who will talk about her time volunteering in Paris with the Olympics, Bree Borlace, a young mother and midwife and member of the performing band, and Kirsten Linden, an army chaplain from Melbourne.

Live music will be performed by Bonnie Aeschliman, Ms Borlace, Grace and Molly Molloy and Grace Crannaford.

Ms Blows encouraged anyone interested in attending to purchase tickets before they sell out.

“Get your tickets fast, there’s only one hundred and we’ve already sold about eighty!” she said.
