City not being Grinchy with Xmas decorations

WITH Broken Hill City Council having announced a revised completion date for the Town Square refurbishment, municipal officers have also organised to host the annual Christmas decorations elsewhere.

“Due to the upgrade of the Town Square, council will create its annual Christmas display on the Civic Centre Plaza for the coming festive season,” a municipal spokesperson said.

This year the display is set to include the Christmas tree, large bauble, reindeer, and a big accessible gift with bow.

“The installation will be complemented by Christmas projections in the Civic Centre windows and Christmas carols played from the centre’s sound system,” the spokesperson said.

“The city’s existing lighting installations will also switch to Christmas colours in early December.”

The initial end date for the site’s redevelopment slated for January, however council staff are now predicting it’ll be in late February.

“Council has revised the completion date of the Town Square refurbishment, with the project now expected to be completed in late February rather than late January,” a spokesperson said.

“The timeline has been adjusted as council has opted to have shade sails installed during the current construction period, rather than installing the structures in a second construction stage at a later date.

“Council is aiming to have the Town Square itself reopened to the public by mid-February, with carpark works at the rear of the project to be completed in the following weeks.”

A municipal spokesperson also addressed community concern about the future of the Women’s Monument that stood in the middle of the footpath at front of town square.

“Councill will hold community engagement regarding the future location of the Women’s Monument in early December,” the spokesperson said.

There is also a survey for those concerned about what will happen to the monument.
