STAFF and residents at Southern Cross Care celebrated 50 years of community service with a party, speeches and lunch at St Annes Nursing Home on Thursday.
SCC regional general manager Larni Baird, who is a month into her new role, said she felt humbled she could attend the event.
“Being here for a month and being able to be part of a 50-year celebration, it’s really humbling because you realise how deep the history is here,” she said.
“It really helps you strive to make sure that your contribution is valuable; it’s been here for a long time, so we better make a positive difference.
“To celebrate, the community are coming along, we’ve got cake and people here from Queensland; there’s lots of people that have come far and wide to help us celebrate, and our residents are coming.”
Ms Baird said she aimed to keep building on Southern Cross Care’s established reputation and service.
“My time here is to make sure that the last 50 years have provided a strong foundation to push us forward,” she said.
“I’m really hoping to build those connections with other community stakeholders that will support us, so that’s the next goal.”
